Bonjour! :) So, today, I thought I'd talk a little about an interesting habit I've developed ever since I started writing, which was years, years, and even more years ago. It's a habit I'm sure many of us are guilty of...
...and it's a habit I never want to break.
Basically, I've been writing some novels over the past few years, and obviously, once done, I've been sending out queries and such for them. Consequentially, I find myself more hooked and more curious about blogs from agents/published authors/aspiring writers such as myself out there, which leads to my habit of discovering a soon-to-be-on-shelves book, already out book, or agent-just-picked-up-an-amazing-client-with-an-amazing-book book. So, in essence, nearly every day I'm discovering more and more books through the web, and seemingly every week I'm at Borders (my favorite book store out there) =) picking up said books.
And it's impacting my room. I've now, because of this, started to nurture and grow my own mini library. :)
When I'll get around to all these can't-wait-to-read books, I don't know. But I will find time. It's just a matter of finishing the other zillion books I have lined up. :)
Oh, and I'd just like to say thanks to everyone who commented on my Crusader challenge mechanical liger post. It was a lot of fun to write, and basically shows that my head is a mysterious place even I sometimes fear entering. So, thank you. :)
With that, I leave you with this question: are any of you guilty of this rather inevitable habit? I'd love to hear your responses!
Write on!
Thanks so much for joining me, and yes at my age I have dozens and dozens of books. Unfortunately the weight of those upstairs was causing the skirting board to come away from the wall... must be a moral in there somewhere...
ReplyDeleteYep, but I have been forbidden from spending too much $$ on books, so I end up going to the library, then keeping the book out too long, then having to pay a fine... it's a fun cycle. So I got a bunch of free Kindle books to read & tame the urge to bring an entire library into my home... for now.
ReplyDeleteYES.. I hear you! I have a HUGE TBR pile in the corner by my desk, and outside my room on the shelf. And I keep somehow collecting more. I'm trudging through them though... slowly but surely :)
ReplyDeleteBooks are one of my favorite indulgences. And always will be.
ReplyDeleteI definitely do it too and I love it!
ReplyDeleteI actually have my own library since I moved. So, erm, a resounding YES :D
ReplyDeleteI can't say I buy all the books I want to, but I am guilty of walking through Borders thinking (maybe even saying aloud) "Hey, I know this girl/guy." (um, erica, no, you really don't. you just read their blog.)
ReplyDeleteHey this is so true. I can't stop buying books and you do learn so much from them. I always find myself in bookstores wherever I go. Keep it up fellow crusader..:)
ReplyDeleteHello, I'm a new Crusader. I do have a horrible book habit but I think these addictions could be so much worse so I try not to worry too much.
ReplyDeleteI was buying quite a lot of 'how to write' books until my son took me to one side and said kindly, 'you've got to stop reading how to write books and actually start writing a book.' Wise words from one so young.
Thanks for commenting, everyone! (Erica, I completely lost it when I read your comment, because I do the same exact thing.)
ReplyDeleteAnd hello back, Jenny! It's great that you're following; I just followed you back as well. :)
I think, no matter what, this habit will forever continue... So let's all rejoice in the fact that we get to constantly discover new books!
Yep guilty as charged, though perhaps not such a big pile as you describe. I took a 9 month OU course to make myself write to deadlines and read such books and it helped enormously. thanks for following me too :O)
ReplyDeleteThere are so many books out there to read! Each one to me is like unwrapping a tasty chocolate and enjoying it down to the last bite. I suppose that's why I do random reviews!
ReplyDeleteI have so many books waiting to be read I've become ruthless. If they don't hook me in the first chapter, I'm done!
ReplyDeleteI'm actually not too bad in this regard, but with an unlimited budget it might be a different story (or two) :-).
ReplyDeleteMy weakness is children's picture books for my daughter, which I tell myself are educational. But really I buy them as much for myself as her, and I'm a sucker for a fantastic illustration or thoughtful story. Just a kid at heart...
